Paris, France, 18/1/1949

Son of an aeronautic builder, Philippe Starck was born in Paris in 1949. At the age of twenty he was the art director of Cardin and at twenty five travelled round the world and settled in the US, at twenty seven returned to Paris and designed his first big night club: La main bleu. This was followed by other clubs, cafes, restaurants, hotels, spaces for Pierre Balmain as well as an apartment for François Mitterrand at Eliseo.

He designed a collection of furniture for the Minister of French culture and for the fashion house Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Scales for Terraillon, sanitaryware for Washmobile, televisions for Thomson, watches Nichinia, lighters Dupont, furniture for Driade, Kartell and Vitra, lighting for Flos, toothbrushes for Fluocaril, kitchenware for Alessi.

Between 1998 and 1999 he created the catalogue Good Goods with La Redoute. Since 1987 he has completed various architectural projects. He is Officier des Arts et de Lettres.
